Movies are headed in the right direction by casting powerhouse black female actresses in colorless roles that just happen to star black women. Isn’t this how it should be? I can’t wait to see all 3 movies starring Paula Patton, Gabrielle Union and Taraji P. Henson.
These actresses look just like you and me, and certainly about their business. Gotta support their rise to the top of the film industry. If Hollywood is smart they will roll out a movie starring a black actress every month. Fan fare of films starring back actresses (A rarity) becomes addictive to true movie goers, but they have to keep arriving.
The promotion has to be on point, too. I think Taraji P. Henson’s Proud Mary did exceptionally well with 18 million in ticket sales week 1, but I don’t recall a single promo stating when the movie would be released.
Perhaps, Taraji starred in one of her fiercest roles to date, but its time that movie goers demand equal promotion of the stars they want to see on the big screen.
Traffik starring Paula Patton
‘Investigative journalist Brea Stephens goes on what is supposed to be a romantic getaway to a cabin in the woods with her boyfriend, John Wilson, but after a chance encounter with a suspicious gang at a secluded truck stop, they find themselves unknowingly in possession of a phone containing proof of the gang’s exploits. Caught in the crosshairs of the relentless crew, Brea and John are left with one mission: survival.’
